In the last session of Congress, MTBE was considered the “ energy bill killer.” According the RFD Radio correspondent Matt Kaye, this might not be the case this time. He reports that the energy leaders in the House could be ready to end their fight with the Senate for MTBE legal protections in the energy bill. This very issue is what caused the energy bill to sink in the last Congress, taking down with it a national renewable fuels standard. If the bill contains protections for MTBE, blamed for groundwater pollution, Senate Democrats and some Republicans are ready to filibuster a House-Senate energy deal again.
